Monday is just around the corner

~ We will be Open!!~

We have all the “beefing up” done on the berm that is surrounding our Resort on the West, North, and East sides closest to the lakeshore.

We had a great surprise Thursday afternoon.  Willard and Earl from Ada, MN drove to our Resort with suitcases in the car and said “We are here to help for a day or two”! Willard and Earl and their good friends come to ice fish with us pretty much every week all winter long.  We have become so blessed by these great Ada, MN guys!!  So Earl and Willard put on their gloves and went to work with Dale working with dirt-moving, rock placement, tree cutting, and brush clearing for the remainder of Thursday and Friday.  We worked together, had meals together, and had some great visiting!  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, God’s blessings to you Earl and Willard!!!!

We have moved our sunset view Beach Bar as close to the lakeshore as we can. We have a fire ring next to the Beach bar so we can enjoy a campfire as we did last year.   The beach bar is nice and close to the berm and the view makes such a beautiful picture you do not even notice the berm at all.  We do feel that we can safely resume camping in our Lakeshore campground.  We do have 7 campsites that remain underwater and we anticipate we will not be able to use these campsites this summer.  We have our campsites: Tent, Standard, and Superior – Come camp with us!!!

Our swimming area is on the East end of our shoreline.  A little bit of a hike from the campground (approximately 600 -700 feet) none the less access to the lake for a nice swim!  We have our lily pads lakeshore along with our campground bean bag and lawn dice games.  Dale and I will be cleaning up the beach area the entire 600-700 feet to be a very enjoyable beach area for our guests.  This is also the beach area where we have the 2 Pergolas.  They are close to the swimming area and have just a lovely view of the lake.  Don’t forget the vintage pedal bikes we now have available for those that wish to go for a bike ride.

With all the not-so-fun situations we have a good side – On the West side of the berm, we built for the protection of the high water we now have a great start on our walking trail that eventually will be the entire perimeter of our resort property.  This is a dream of mine, to say the least.

No, it is not the same when we have the berm for protection until this water level recedes and unfortunately today we still stand at 1063.3 feet.  We are doing our best and will take good care of you.

Here is the report from the Lake of the Woods Control Board that comes to us regularly each week:

2022.07.08 Level Forecast

The current level of Lake of the Woods is 324.10 m (1063.3 ft), over 95th percentile level for this time of year. The average lake level remained stable over the past week. The lake level is above the 2014 peak of 323.78 m (1062.29 ft) and is below the record peak since regulation began of 324.31 m (1064.0 ft), set in July of 1950. The dams in Kenora remain fully open and no additional actions can be taken to limit lake level rise.

Lake of the Woods level reached a peak within the last week and levels have remained stable since. Forecasts are indicating the possibility of higher than normal rainfall at the beginning of next week. This precipitation could see the lake level rise by up to 3 cm over the next week. If the precipitation is lower than expected, the lake may rise slightly, but then continue to decline up to 2 cm over the next week.

With these slight increases and decreases in lake level, the outflow from the lake will also slightly rise or fall. This will result in the level of the Winnipeg River between Kenora and Minaki to change by 1-2 cm (1/2 in to 1 in) over the next week, whether upward or downward depending on the rainfall. Higher level increases are possible in the event of larger local rainfall and inflows.

The current level of Lac Seul is 356.76 m (1170.5 ft), 85th percentile level for this time of year. The level of the main body of Lac Seul is expected to fall by 4-7 cm (1-3 in) over the next 7 days. Lac Seul authorized outflow is scheduled to reduce to 500 m³/s on Monday, July 11.

Back to Clean up!

Yesterday was a little bit lighter for Dale and I, the holiday just wasn’t the same with the campground empty.  We received over 3/4 inch of rain yesterday which put a damper on the day.  Our 4 campers and helpers were all home by noon.  Just Dale and I ran around in the rain, then to town for a few groceries and back home and decided on a movie.  Today we are getting more clean-up done but we need the clean-up area to dry out.  Back to pumping water, 2 pumps running throughout the day today.

Got a little of the cleaning up the brush and logs started.

Rubber mats, 2 x 4’s, etc spread out throughout the campsite. Cleaning up and getting all the materials put away.

Water drain pumps -back where they came from!

Bobcat attachments putting back in their storage spot!!

Dump truck hanging out for a bit!!

Mamma is not even 25 feet from us this July 5th, 2022

Re-Opening our Resort on 7.11.22

We will be re-opening our resort on July 11th and the online reservations are again available from July 11th on.

~~~~~~~~~~~
First of all, we want to send a HUGE THANK YOU to each and every person that came to us and helped in so many ways.
We still are working on cleaning up the Lakeside camping area, however, we feel much better from the work that has been done over the last 5 days.  We have taken extra measures to hold back the high water when the wind is at the speeds we have experienced in the weeks prior to today.  We are still working on placing rocks for securing the berm and all the wood is now cut.  We have more clean-up to do, mowing, smoothing out where the equipment made ruts, replacing picnic tables, fire rings…
by the 11th we will be in good shape.
Tired from your walk – we have a bike for you at the office to ride back down to the campground.
Come and sit on a stool at the beach bar and see these
amazing sunsets for yourself.
Please know I (Connie) am available by phone at 320-630-6734
anytime between 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Come Camp * Fish * Relax here at Dale’s On Lake of the Woods
